Culture on Cloth:
Inuit Expressions (2007)
The Culture on Cloth exhibition is a collection of embroidered wall hangings created by the Inuit women of Baker Lake in the frozen Arctic region of Canada. Working with coloured cloth & thread the creators have evoked their Inuit narrative traditions through illustration of everyday life, objects, animals & folk tales.
Rajasthan, though thousands of miles from Baker Lake, also has a rich tradition of expressive woolen textile art, embellished with stitch. Culture on Cloth offers a glimpse into both worlds through indigeneous textiles.
